The pace bowler has secured 309 Test scalps in 71 Test matches with an stellar bowling average.
The Australian selection chief the selector has stated that captain Pat Cummins will be a central figure in this winter's England-Australia contest.
Speculation had been growing that the 32-year-old might miss the series due to a persistent back stress problem that remained unresolved.
Earlier indications from the Australian camp suggested no official announcement had been made regarding Cummins' participation, with the Test matches kicking off on 21 November in the WACA.
The selector shared that his recovery is on track and felt positive about the prospects of being involved.
"We're aware that the window is narrowing and multiple considerations around that, not only the back issue, but other factors as well," he commented.
"The outlook is good. There's strong faith that he will feature a major part. With luck starting in Perth. Should that not happen, we'll reassess."
Past Concerns
He was sidelined the white-ball matches against India and New Zealand recently after medical tests showed a lumbar bone stress.
There is a track record of recurring issues, with flare-ups in multiple past seasons causing him to miss several home seasons in a limited period.
The bowler mentioned he would be proactive in his approach in his rehabilitation process to ensure his availability for the series.
Bailey noted that it was unclear if Cummins had begun bowling as part of his comeback but conceded it was "getting tight" for him to be fit for the initial match.
Contingency Plans
Should Cummins not be fit, former captain Steve Smith will lead the side.
Versatile player Green was recently pulled out from Australia's squad for their ODI contests against the subcontinent side as a precautionary measure because of discomfort in his torso.
He labeled it as a "minor" injury and confirmed that Green will play in the domestic first-class competition, so will be "in a good place to resume bowling."
"Extensive planning has gone into building out the plan for him to take part for the first Test as an batting and bowling option," he elaborated.
"Originally, he'd only feature in the first two ODIs regardless. His aggressive style the willow in shorter formats, even if it just sets him back for another day, the choice was made to adopt a safer strategy."
